Transitional Kindergarten / Kindergarten

Rising Sun Montessori’s Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten (TK/K) program is the foundational program of our school. The Montessori Method promotes each child’s individuality and unique learning style. Young learners will be “met where they are at” and have a program designed around their individual strengths as individuals.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a two-year kindergarten program for those students who will turn 5 between September 2nd and April 2nd of that school year.  Kindergarten students will turn 5 by September 1st.

In the Montessori learning environment, your child is given ample time to gain knowledge at his/her own pace.  The goal is not to introduce children to as many activities as possible and then move on to the next, rather, we introduce developmentally appropriate activities and then allow the children time to work until they have demonstrated mastery in that activity.

The Montessori teacher acts as the primary guide in the classroom; however, the children don’t find their motivation from the teacher, but instead from within themselves. This helps the students to build self-reliance, independence, and a sense of pride in their own self-directed accomplishments, maintaining their natural enthusiasm for learning.

Rising Sun’s Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten Program foundations include written language, math, social learning, music, sign language, and environmental studies.

The purpose of our TK/K program is to prepare young children for a lifetime of learning.  We acknowledge that we cannot give our students the universe of knowledge, but rather, we can give them the keys to learning which in turn opens the universe to them.
